May 8th - That's Not Dandruff
May 08, 2020
OK, OK, I’m ready for some spring/summer weather. The high today is supposed to be 32F. That’s 30 degrees below normal, quite a deviation. And no, that’s not dandruff on Hope, it’s snow. There’s not a lot of it but it’s still snow on May 8th. To think last week when we had two days in the 60s I was considering putting my flannel lined jeans away. Guess not yet. Yes, I'm whining.
Update: May 9th, An inch of snow this morning, can't see the grass. And still snowing. Shouldn't be much more but it's pretty. There I go again, yesterday I was whining but today I say it's pretty. It's supposed to be April showers bring May flowers. What does May snow bring?
On to other things, last night was a super moon. We live just an hour south of the Mackinac Bridge, so Connie and I went up there to catch the unobstructed view. We perched on the Lake Michigan side of the bridge looking toward Lake Huron.
The weather was a blessing and a curse. We had a cold front come through earlier in the day. The blessing was it cleared out the clouds. The curse was a strong wind from the north. That played havoc with camera shake. But you take what you can get. The sun went down at 8:54PM. The moon rose at 9:25PM. It was the perfect timing to give the orange color that was pretty impressive.
I was hoping to catch moon just over the middle span of the bridge, but as it turned out I would have had to be in the middle of the strait to do that. Being very dark with freighters going by and ice cold water, I wasn’t taking the kayak out to get that shot. Go ahead and call me a wimp. So, I had to settle for catching it over the northern end of the bridge. Not the best but it was still quite a show.
The Mackinac Bridge is quite a sight both day and night. Took the final shot just before packing up. Needed about a three second shutter speed to get the shot. The blur at the bottom is a freighter passing under the bridge. Left after dinner and home for the late news. It was a good evening.
